Experiencing Utah through color, light, and landscape

My first fall in Utah felt like stepping into an entirely different landscape. The changing leaves, cool mountain air, and dramatic contrast between the golden trees and rugged hillsides made every drive feel cinematic. With my camera nearby the entire weekend, I found myself constantly stopping to take in the colors, textures, and shifting light that make Utah autumns so distinctive.

Lilith quickly became the unexpected subject of the trip, bringing personality and warmth into the frame against the dramatic landscape. Her curiosity and energy added a sense of life to the scenery and helped balance the scale of the expansive mountain views.

Photographing the season became less about chasing perfect compositions and more about documenting the atmosphere itself. The soft overcast light and warm tones created a natural depth that made even quiet roadside moments feel striking. From winding scenic byways to trails covered in fallen leaves, every location felt layered with movement and color.

What stood out most to me was the way the community embraces the season. Everywhere we went, people were outside enjoying the changing landscape and slowing down to appreciate it.

As someone new to Utah, it was one of the first moments where this place truly started to feel like home.
